Cardinals Consider Drafting Two CBs

The Cardinals' lack of depth at cornerback is striking, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see them draft at least two of them. The starters, Eric Green and Rod Hood, are solid. Hood is smart and tenacious, and Green made great strides last year in his third season. Behind them, however, things are shaky.

Antrel Rolle was the third corner last year, but he has been moved to free safety. Rolle could move into the nickel corner's spot in some schemes next year. He excelled in that job last year, and it would be foolish not to use him in a similar fashion this year.

But the club has few backups right now. The third corner at this point is Michael Adams, who spent most of last year on the practice squad as a rookie free agent. Adams is athletic and tough, but he's only 5-feet-8 and inexperienced.

Veteran Ralph Brown played well in a limited role last year and could return. There is little help out there now in free agency, and the team needs to add corners in the draft.

The Cardinals could address the position in the first round. They have the 16th overall pick, so one of the top three corners, maybe South Florida's Mike Jenkins or Troy's Leodis McKelvin, could be available. Or the club could wait and hope that a quality player such as Arizona's Antoine Cason falls a bit.

FRANCHISE PLAYER: LB Karlos Dansby (tendered at $8.065M).

--DL Rodney Bailey has the ability to play inside and out adds to his value.
--P Mitch Berger didn't secure the job in the final weeks of '07.
--CB Ralph Brown is a decent No. 4 corner who is always prepared.
--S Oliver Celestin is a good special teamer.
--QB Tim Hasselbeck could stay as the No. 3 QB, depending if the team drafts a QB.
--S Bhawoh Jue could provide depth.
--DT Ross Kolodziej was banged up last year, and he probably won't return.
--QB Tim Rattay is a solid backup but likely will seek a No. 2 job elsewhere.
--S Matt Ware is just an average guy.
