Cardinals Announce Preseason Schedule

The Cardinals continued a busy week with more prominent announcements on Wednesday. The team learned its preseason lineup, including a primetime game to get things underway. Arizona also re-signed a pair of restricted free agents and brought back an unrestricted free agent to strengthen the secondary.

Saintly Start to the Season

The Cardinals learned today that they will kick off the preseason against the New Orleans Saints in a game that will be televised by ESPN. The game will get underway at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7.

The Cardinals will finish the preseason with three games against the AFC West. That stretch starts with consecutive road games against the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders and wraps up with a home game against the Denver Broncos.

Restricted No More

The Cardinals agreed to terms with restricted free agents Eric Green and Antonio Smith, both of whom are projected starters for next season. Both players were tagged with first-round tenders, so despite being represented by the wily Drew Rosenhaus, they had little chance of landing new deals elsewhere.

By signing their contracts now instead of waiting until the April 18 deadline, Green and Smith are able to participate in this weekend's voluntary workouts. Darnell Dockett, who is seeking a new deal of his own, will reportedly skip the workouts. Anquan Boldin, who is also seeking a new contract, is expected to attend.

What can Brown do for you?

The Cardinals have re-signed nine-year veteran CB Ralph Brown to a one-year deal. Brown joined the team prior to last season and played in all 16 games, tallying 25 tackles, three forced fumbles and an interception.

By bringing back Brown, the Cardinals relieve some of the urgency to find a cornerback in the first round of the draft. Since Brown is a capable nickel back, Arizona now has the luxury of drafting the best player available. Nonetheless, expect the Cardinals to leave day one with a defensive back in tow.
