Cards Prospect Q&A: Pac 10 RB

The Arizona Cardinals will have to amp it up their running game they are serious about ending their playoff drought. Coach Ken Whisenunt is in the market for a home-run hitter with the ability to score from anywhere on the field. Samantha Fillerup chats with one such player in this exclusive interview.

Justin Forsett (5'8", 196 pounds) stared at the University of California, much like current Cardinals running back J.J. Arrington. In 2007, Forsett tallied 305 carries, 1,546 yards and led the PAC-10 with 15 touchdowns. He was named to first-team All PAC-10 and ended his career at Cal third in career rushing yards with 3,200.

Despite running a sub-par 4.62 in the 40-yard dash, Forsett is an instinctive runner who is fast with the ball in his hands. He is a dedicated player and willing to put the team first.

"I am a universal player who is team-oriented and hardworking," he said. "I will do whatever I can to help the team out--that's who I am."

Forsett has his share of challenges to overcome. He lacks the size to be an every-down tailback. His receiving and leaping abilities are only average and needs to take better angles in the open field. Additionally, he had some fumble issues during his senior year and needs to hold the ball closer to his body.

Forsett is confident there is nothing he can't overcome on the next level. He has been working to stay in shape and improve his blocking in preparation of the draft.

He wants to be ready to, "get in there and get nasty and run with it."

In 2007, Edgerrin James led the Cardinals with 1,222 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Forsett would be a great supplemental threat to that middle-of-the-pack rushing attack. He is eager to show what he can do when running with the big boys.

"It would be a dream come true," Forsett said. "It's so crazy how close I am right now. I'm just trying to do all I can to make it right now."

Forsett has met with teams such as the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Although he has yet to have a formal meeting with the Cardinals, Forsett is not ruling any team out and would enjoy being reunited with Arrington.

"I would be excited just to be drafted," Forsett said.
