Cards' Searching for Offensive Line Help

The Arizona Cardinals are stable at nearly every position but the offensive line is one area where the team still hopes to improve. There are a handful of potential additions currently on the free-agent market but one candidate stands out from the pack. Brad Wilbricht zeros in on who the Cards' have their eyes on and breaks down how his arrival would boast Arizona's performance in the trenches.

While there are several available candidates, the Arizona Cardinals have identified veteran offensive lineman Levi Jones as a possible addition to the roster. Jones is originally from the state of Arizona and starred in the collegiate ranks at Arizona St. University. As the 10th overall pick in the 2002 draft, expectations were high for Jones but he's struggled through injuries of late. After missing just one game in his first four NFL seasons, he's been held out of action in 17 contests over the past three years.

The Cardinals' starting spots along the offensive line are set for now but there is still a need for depth. Backups Elton Brown and Oliver Ross serve as the team's top reserves along with a host of youngsters waiting in the wings. With Brown and Ross also hampered by injuries throughout their careers, Jones would be a talented commodity if he can remain healthy for the entire season.

Up to this point, Jones has spent his entire career with the Cincinnati Bengals but a homecoming back to Arizona could position him for a career resurgence. Not only would Jones return to his roots in the desert but he'll surely benefit from working with Cardinals' offensive line coach Russ Grimm. In addition, there would be little pressure on Jones as his contributions would more than likely be an added bonus considering the bargain price Arizona could acquire his services for.

With the Cardinals set to begin training camp later this month, look for Jones' future in Arizona to be decided in the coming weeks. GM Rod Graves has already expressed interested in the former Sun Devil standout and if the price is right that are few obstacles in the way of signing him to a contract. The Cardinals will have to invest minimal resources in the seven-year veteran, which could prove to be an excellent value if things pan out.
