Inside the Cardinals OTAs

The Arizona Cardinals wrapped up their second week of OTAs on Thursday with lots of action on both sides of the ball. Matt Leinart and Derek Anderson continue to work with an outstanding group of wide receivers while the Arizona secondary is still up in the air. Get caught up on the Cardinals latest news and notes from this week's OTA action.

QB Matt Leinart is still the incumbent starter under center but the Arizona Cardinals' coaching staff clearly wants to take a look at newcomer Derek Anderson. Anderson has demonstrated flashes of brilliance during his career but most of the positives were overshadowed by the consistent struggles by the Cleveland Browns. Anderson had little to work with on the Browns' offense and a game-breaking wideout like Larry Fitzgerald might be just what he needs to solidify his status as an NFL starter.

Leinart maintains a positive attitude but unless his accuracy and decision making improves, Anderson could see his fair share of playing time. Due to his familiarity with the offense and the players around him, Leinart has a significant advantage but if Anderson is able to rustle the starting job away from the former Heisman Trophy winner it could be sign of things to come. Anderson would likely need a lights out performance to overtake Leinart and the feat would display his progression since arriving in the desert.

On defense, the most intriguing position during OTAs has been at cornerback. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has been out of action while recovering from injury, leaving Greg Toler and Michael Adams with the first-team unit. While Adams won't be expected to start come the regular season, Toler will. Toler is gaining tremendous experience from lining up against Fitzgerald, Steven Breaston and the rest of Arizona's receivers. Toler has held his own up to this point and his confidence is growing with each practice session.

Stay tuned to for continuing coverage of the Cardinals' offseason as OTAs resume with a four-day session starting on June 1st.
