Day 1 of training camp came and went with the sun peeking out in Flagstaff. Provided it was in shell padding and with almost no hitting, but it's always good to get the first workout in as a unit. The biggest highlight was the crowd of over 3,500 fans who came to support the team. The Big Red will continue to work in Flagstaff over the next three weeks to prepare for the 2010 season.
Injuries: Linebackers O'Brien Schofield (knee) and Gerald Hayes (back) are still recovering from their respective surgeries and did not practice as expected. Defensive lineman Dean Muhtadi strained his calf during the morning's run test.
Position Battles: Cornerback Trumaine McBride ran with the first team defense opposite Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, but the position is "wide open" according to defensive coordinator Bill Davis. Greg Toler, Michael Adams and Justin Miller should also push for significant playing time.
With Hayes out, Monty Beisel and Paris Lenon are the starting middle linebackers to begin camp. Rookie Daryl Washington is expected to challenge, but is currently third-string behind Lenon and Ali Highsmith.
Brandon Keith continues to run with the first unit at right tackle as he did in OTAs, but Jeremy Bridges, currently the second-string left tackle behind Levi Brown, will see time there as well.
Play of the Day: Matt Leinart hit Early Doucet for a 15-yard gain, just out of Michael Adams' reach that drew plenty of cheers from the gallery.
Quotes: "I think the thing I was most surprised about was the crowd. That was unbelievable today to see all the fans up here. And you could see how it energized our players because we had a real upbeat practice. Guys had a lot of energy." –Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt
Dan Williams Watch: With the picks before and after Williams (Tim Tebow, Devin McCourty) signed, Arizona's front office should have an idea of what the first-round pick's contract will look like. While a deal is not considered imminent, reports are the defensive lineman could sign by Monday.
