Players, coaches, and fans were anxious for Dan Williams second day of camp on Wednesday morning. Veterans Darnell Dockett and Bryan Robinson were in the rookie's ear, getting him up to speed with the rest of the defense. Williams looks like he is in decent shape, and his conditioning should improve as training camp progresses. Williams arrived with a good attitude, listening attentively, and carrying Dockett's pads after practice without any Dez Bryant-like arrogance.
While Dockett and Robinson attended to Williams, newly acquired veteran Joey Porter gave pointers to DE Kenny Iwebema, who has struggled at camp the past few days. The defensive line and linebackers are forming a bond that should make the unit more and more solid as the season continues. The addition of Williams and rookie LB Daryl Washington brings youth to the defensive front and as the rookies develop the defense as a whole will improve dramatically.
The battle for kick returning duties looks like it is boiling down to rookie wideout Andre Roberts and rookie CB Marshay Green. Both looked sharp Wednesday morning, catching everything that came their way and breaking up field with noticeable speed. Against an oncoming special teams unit, Roberts rolled left than sliced right, straight through the coverage, and broke up field. A dangerous return man, which both Roberts and Green have the potential to become, will provide Arizona's offense with an advantage in field position.
The Cardinals practice again Wednesday evening at Coconino High School, stayed tuned to AZRedReport for more notes later tonight.
