Cardinals: Training Camp Battles & Awards

Get the latest on the most intriguing battles of camp so far and who takes home this week's awards.

BATTLE OF THE WEEK: Trumaine McBride is hanging on to the left cornerback job, but Greg Toler is still the favorite to win it. Toler started slowly in camp but played well in the scrimmage, breaking up two passes to Larry Fitzgerald. He's the best bet to earn the job by the start of training camp.

OTHER BATTLE FRONTS: G Deuce Lutui is still running with the second team. He is still overweight. But he has been one of the best guards in camp and it's going to be hard to continue to play him behind Reggie Wells or even Alan Faneca. To get an accurate gauge of the situation, coaches might have to play Lutui on the first team so he can go against the first team linebackers.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: WR Stephen Williams, an undrafted rookie receiver from Toledo, has caught everything in camp and made several big plays. At 6-5, 208 pounds, he has the size and speed to make an impact. He is pushing Andre Roberts for the No. 4 job.

ROOKIE REPORT: NT Dan Williams, the Cardinals' first-round pick, is taking extra reps after missing three days of camp before signing. Williams is in decent shape but has had trouble catching his breath at the elevation of 7,000 feet in Flagstaff. ... ILB Daryl Washington has displayed great speed and is making decent progress. ... WR Andre Roberts, the team's third-round pick, dropped too many passes over a couple of days of practice, but rebounded with some excellent performances. ... TE Jim Dray, the seventh round pick, hasn't practiced since the first day due to a strained quadriceps mucle.
