The Big Red got the morning off for a Ken Whisenhunt team-building tradition, taking a break from practice to go to the movies. Following a relaxing dose of "The Expendables," the Cardinals moved under the lights at Coconino High School for their last night practice in Flagstaff. Arizona has three more days in the cool pines before breaking camp and heading to Nashville to battle the Titans on Monday night.
Highlights: Coach Whisenhunt was hoping to see more intensity from his players Wednesday night, but only about half the team fully delivered. The night was mostly dominated by the defense, which accumulated several would be sacks and disrupted the offense's flow. Rookie cornerback Marshay Green made a nice play on the ball to intercept a Derek Anderson pass in the end zone to wrap-up practice.
Scoring for the offense came when Max Hall completed a tight pass to Dominique Byrd from 15 yards out and a Tim Hightower five-yard run. John Skelton struggled during running plays, twice looking confused and botching the handoffs. Skelton played well in Arizona's preseason game against Houston, but has been unable to put together a string of solid practices. Whisenhunt said Hall will definitely play against Tennessee, so Skelton may need to up his game to stay ahead in the third quarterback battle.
Roster Moves: Arizona parted ways with injured safety Aaron Rouse and inked wide receiver Michael Jones, an Arizona State product. This is a tough break for Rouse, who suffered whiplash in a car accident while on his way back to Flagstaff. But a move had to be expected with Larry Fitzgerald and Early Doucet banged up in the receiving corps.
Injuries: Linebacker Will Davis sat out the night session to relieve the soreness in his knees. Linebacker Reggie Walker (hamstring) was back in uniform, but his work was limited. Fitzgerald (knee), Doucet (abdominal) and tight end Ben Patrick (knee) are still recovering, did not practice and will likely not play in Monday's game.
Quote of the Day: "It's something from the first day of camp they start talking about, ‘when is it going to be movie day?' You see offensive and defensive guys sitting together, laughing and enjoying the movie...it's great to do things in training camp, other than beating on each other, together." –Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt on his team's training camp tradition
