Depth Chart Dive-In: As It Stands Now

While the lockout leaves fans to speculate how the Chargers will go about filling out their roster, this is a good time to examine the stock on-hand. Here is a look at the team's depth chart, minus all unrestricted free agents and possible offseason acquisitions.

The depth chart below is a shell of the one the Chargers plan for Opening Day. It figures all of the team's unrestricted free agents -- assuming that means players with four or more accrued seasons -- do not return.

The depth chart does include players who figure to be restricted or exclusive-rights free agents, as well as WR Vincent Jackson, who received the franchise tag before the lockout began.

All of the team's draft picks are also included; even though those players are not yet under contract, San Diego holds exclusive negotiating rights.

This depth chart -- as it stands now -- shows just how much work is needed in the abbreviated free-agency period. The situation is particularly dire at inside linebacker and safety, where multiple contributors are slated to test the open market.

Less talked about positions, like QB and both sides of the line, may be in trouble if underrated veterans such as Billy Volek, Scott Mruczkowski and Jacques Cesaire find work elsewhere.

Without further ado, here is the 53-man depth chart featuring players who are all but guaranteed to be in Chargers training camp.
