Kiel Out 4-6 Weeks

San Diego Chargers draft pick Terrence Kiel, recently shot three times in an attempted carjacking in a Houston area mall, will need to undergo surgery to remove loose fragments from his knee.

Terrence Kiel will need 4-6 weeks of recovery time to heal a fractured left fibula. Training camp begins in just over a week and Kiel is now expected to miss a good portion of it.

Chargers.com reports team doctors discovered the fracture and loose fragments in his knee and have set the surgery for Wednesday July 16th.

The bullet that was lodged in his abdomen during the shooting will also be removed.

Kiel was taken in the second round of the NFL Draft and was the third consecutive defensive back to be chosen by the Bolts.

"For his immediate football career this season, it's a mild setback," said General Manager A.J. Smith. "But, in the big picture, we're grateful and Terrence is fortunate that it wasn't worse."

"Rest and rehab is what's needed at this time," Smith added. "We expect a full recovery."
