Chargers active in free agency on Wednesday

**CHARGERS SIGN WR/KR TRAVIS BENJAMIN AND RE-SIGN TE ANTONIO GATES

**DL HELP PLEASE

San Diego also signed a nose tackle, giving a three-year deal to ex-Seahawk Brandon Mebane. Mebane, a Los Angeles native and Super Bowl champion, spent nine NFL seasons in Seattle after being picked up by the Seahawks in the third round of the 2007 draft.

The Cal Berkeley alum has started 134 games, including 11 postseason appearances and nine starts.

**TENDER TALK

Chargers gave exclusive-rights tenders to WR Dontrelle Inman and G-T Kenny Wiggins, who return with one-year deals.  They also placed a second-year tender on strong safety Jahleel Addae, ensuring he will return for a fourth season with the organization.

**SAFETY SIGNING

Former Indianapolis Colts safety Dwight Lowery signed with the Chargers in free agency, agreeing to a three-year contract in San Diego.

Lowery is heading into his ninth NFL season, after being drafted by the Jets in 2008 and spending time with New York, Jacksonville (three seasons) and Atlanta (2014) before heading to the Colts for the 2015 season.

The Santa Cruz native notched 76 tackles, one sack, four interceptions and one touchdown last season. Overall, he has 16 career interceptions (three of which have been returned for TDs).

BACK-UP BACK

The Chargers signed backup QB Kellen Clemens to a one-year deal.
