Chargers sign tight end Jeff Cumberland

The former Jets TE comes in on a one-year contract.

The Chargers signed former New York Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland to a one-year contract Monday, adding another veteran to their roster.

Cumberland, who joined the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2010, caught 86 passes for 1,119 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career. He spent the past four seasons as a starter, playing in at least 15 games each season.

The Ohio native will add depth to the Chargers tight end group, which lost Ladarius Green in the offseason and is in need of more experience.
