Chargers Camp: Thursday Quick Notes

The San Diego Chargers had just one practice on Thursday and will perform a walkthrough tomorrow in preparation for Saturday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. Today saw some interesting developments that could debut on Saturday for fans itching to get a first look at the team. More to come...

David Boston is back on the field and practicing at full speed. Back on the first team, his presence alone was a significant upgrade to the unit, but the defense still held its own as it continues to improve.

Defensive ends Ray Lee Johnson and Adrian Dingle also returned to practice on Thursday.

Reche Caldwell was working with the first team today, opposite Boston, as Tim Dwight was relegated to the third receiver in.

Terry Charles, making his case with so many Chargers out with injuries, is listed at number four on the current injury riddled depth chart and will get plenty of looks this Saturday in Seattle.

Mike Scifres has made significant strides in his consistency since joining the Bolts. His kickoffs are impressive and his booming punts are becoming the norm. With the heavy wind in Carson, he is getting plenty of different scenarios to deal with and the returners are having a tough time judging his ball as it zigzags through the air. This was evident today when Brian Sump muffed one.

Sammy Davis continues to perform better than we could have hoped. Simply put – quarterbacks are not throwing his way often as he blankets receivers daily.

Stephen Cooper is running with the second team these days and Matt Wilhelm has been pushed back to the third. Cooper is joined by Carlos Polk and Jude Waddy. He has consistently made a name for himself with his consistency, giving him the edge over LeMarcus McDonald who is spectacular one minute and clueless the next.

After Thursday's workout, Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer listed several players who won't play against the Seahawks, including defensive end Marcellus Wiley (hamstring), defensive tackle Leonardo Carson (calf), wide receivers Dondre Gilliam (knee), Kassim Osgood (thumb) and Eric Parker (shoulder), tight end Stephen Alexander (groin), guard Toniu Fonoti (triceps) and safety Terrence Kiel (leg).

Schottenheimer also said that rookie running back Antoineo Harris (knee) probably won't play in the game.
