The Chargers will officially kick off their campaign for a new downtown multi-use stadium/convention center Saturday in East Village, when signature-gathering for the initiative will begin.
Fans can come to the parking lot at 13th Street and K Street -- the potential site of the new venue -- to participate in the launch of the campaign, which will include music, Chargers Girls, food and more. The heavy hitters will also be there: Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, team chairman Dean Spanos, former running back LaDainian Tomlinson and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
It is expected that design details for the project will be released Saturday, as well as further specifics of the $1.8 billion multi-use facility, which will be blocks from Petco Park. The initiative requires almost 67,000 signatures by registered voters in order to be placed on the Nov. 8 ballot.
The event kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday.
