The Chargers selected a speedy linebacker in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Jatavis Brown, a linebacker out of Akron, will now call San Diego home. The 5-11, 227-pound MAC Defensive Player of the Year set school records with 20 tackles for loss and 12 sacks last season. A consistent, productive playmaker throughout his career, the 22-year-old ran a 4.47 at the regional combine and has been praised by scouts for his athleticism.
Though he was not invited to the Combine in Indianapolis, Brown impressed at the Regional Combine in Houston, where he placed in the top five of several categories.
Brown is the third defensive player to be picked by the Chargers in this draft, joining defensive end Joey Bosa and inside linebacker Joshua Perry, both out of Ohio State. He is the first linebacker out of the University of Akron to ever be selected in the NFL Draft.
