Chargers claim QB Zach Mettenberger

The former sixth-round pick is headed to San Diego.

The Chargers have themselves a new back-up quarterback: Zach Mettenberger, who was claimed off waivers Tuesday.

Mettenberger, a sixth-round pick of the Titans in 2004, played 14 games for Tennessee (including 10 starts) and totaled 208 completions in 345 pass attempts (60.3 pct) for 2,347 yards, 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in his career. Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt was Mettenberger's head coach while with the Titans.

Besides Mettenberger, the Chargers have another back-up quarterback in Kellen Clemens, who has been with the team since 2014.

The 6-5, 225 pound Mettenberger also knows Philip Rivers, as he was teammates with Rivers' brother Stephen during their time at LSU.
