Talk Playoffs for "Our" Team

Nothing but the playoffs and beyond will do. Make no mistake, every player has the same attitude and is all starts at the top. Marty Schottenheimer made it very clear, "San Diego Chargers, OUR team, Our Team, Our Team."

He wants the playoffs, and forget what everyone else is saying, it all starts with believing in yourself and everyone from the coaching staff down believes.

"This, in my opinion, is a great opportunity for our franchise, our coaches, our players and this community, Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer said. "We find ourselves in a situation where quite frankly those of us outside the community and outside our family -- I don't think they have a particularly high regard for where we are as a football team."

Look around and see where the Chargers are being picked. Most likely you will find them last in the division and you will find them ranked lower than 20th in the 32 team league. Funny thing is they were 17th in the league last season and they have made significant upgrades. Sure other teams have done the same, but teams higher up in the standings have also gotten worse.

"I have always believed that one of the most satisfying and gratifying things you can do in life is to take something that people say about you and disprove every aspect of that. And that is exactly what this group of coaches and young men are setting out to do in this season. That is to disprove all the naysayers and all the doubters because the San Diego Chargers are a damn good football team."

How bad can the pass defense be? No worse than last year as the team was dead last against the pass.

"I want you to think about this for a moment. Three of the past four NFL Champions found themselves in the year preceding that Championship with a record of .500 or lower."

The Chargers ended 2002 with an 8-8 record.

"The St. Louis Rams came off a 4-12 season and won a world championship. The Baltimore Ravens, off an 8-8 season, won the world championship. The New England Patriots, off a 5-11 season, won a world championship. An aggregate of 17-31 those teams were in the year preceding them ultimately reaching the goal that we are all after, a World Championship. I believe the San Diego Chargers can get that done and do it this season.

"OUR team."

This is a league that through free agency has made the impossible – possible. Dynasties will be hard to come by and each team has just as good a shot as the next guy.

"Will it be easy? No.

"Can it be done? Absolutely.

"Our purpose is to find a way each week to be the best that we can be to grow together and win a Championship for the community of San Diego. You deserve it, it is the goal and I assure you without failing a day, this football team will be prepared to win. Don't forget it – San Diego Chargers, OUR team."
