Cody Waived, Mattos Signed

The Chargers made three roster moves on Wednesday, waiving cornerback Tay Cody, signing wide receiver Grant Mattos to the active roster from the practice squad, and signing former Chiefs tight end Dwayne Blakley to the practice squad.

Grant Mattos, 6-2, 220, joined the Chargers this year as a rookie free agent from the University of Southern California. He caught the two touchdowns during the preseason and was praised for his solid hands in the receiving game.

Mattos will wear jersey number 86.

Tay Cody was drafted in the third round from Florida State in 2001, Cody saw action in 14 games with 11 starts as a rookie and recorded 59 tackles and two interceptions.

Cody was bothered by a hamstring injury late in preseason and made one appearance this year before re-injuring his hamstring.

Dwayne Blakley, 6-4, 257, is in his second NFL season. He went to camp with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent from Missouri as a rookie last year and later spent 14 games on Kansas City's practice squad. He rejoined the Chiefs for training camp this year, but was released on the final roster cut down on Aug. 31.
