Ravens 24, Chargers 10

The San Diego Chargers were actually in a game at halftime for the first time this season. Looking at the stats, the Chargers dominated play in the first half. They tallied over 200 yards of total offense while keeping the Ravens to just 110 yards. What mattered was the scoreboard. In the second half the Ravens took over, intercepting Drew Brees three times to seal a 24-10 victory.

A 14 play drive by the Chargers in the first quarter led to a 24 yard field goal. The Bolts again failed to get it in the end zone despite having first and goal at the ten. Tomlinson had eight carries for 39 yards on the drive.

On the next drive, Jamal Lewis ran up the middle and was stripped by Adrian Dingle. The ball bounced up and into the hands of Alan Ricard who took it 50 yard for a touchdown. Luck was not on the Bolts side as they had played pretty well defensively up until that point.

Closing in on halftime, the Chargers drove down field and were stalled at the Ravens 32. Christie lined up for a field goal from 50 yards out and kicked it wide left and five yards short.

The missed field goal by Christie gave the Ravens the ball at the Raven 40. They quickly got into field goal position behind two Jamal Lewis runs, one of 18, one of 6, and Matt Stover nailed a field goal as time expired in the half to put the Ravens up 10-3.

On the first series of the third quarter, Jerry Wilson picked off a Kyle Boller pass as the Ravens were driving. The Chargers could not take advantage, quickly going three and out.

The following Chargers' drive the team again went three and out, putting the defense on the field quickly again. The Ravens capitalized on the tired looking defense. Lewis had runs of 12 and 13 and Todd Heap had two receptions, including a 25 yard touchdown reception in the left corner of the end zone and a 17-3 Raven lead. Quentin Jammer was providing solid coverage, but he never looked back to find the ball.

On the next series, Drew Brees was intercepted by Terrell Suggs at the San Diego 25, returning it to the 14. Two Lewis runs were all Baltimore needed to go up by 21, 24-3.

The Chargers finally scored a touchdown with just over nine minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Drew Brees went 6-8 on the drive and hit four different receivers and Tomlinson capped the drive off with a one yard touchdown run.

24-10 was as close as the Chargers would get. Drew Brees threw interceptions on his final two drives, both in the Ravens end zone.

The Chargers 3-0 lead was the first time they have been ahead this season.

Matt Wilhelm saw his first action of the year playing special teams. He missed an open field tackle on a kickoff that eventually went out to the Baltimore 43.

Vaughn Parker left the game in the third quarter and was replaced by Phil Bogle.

Solomon Page suffered a sprained left ankle injury in the second quarter and did not return. Page was replaced in the line-up by Bob Hallen.

Sammy Davis left the game in the fourth quarter with a concussion and did not return. He was replaced by fellow rookie Drayton Florence.

Doug Flutie was the only active player not to play.
