Dr. J's NFL Rankings 10/8/03

I've never seen anything quite like Dante Hall's return, the Colts comeback, and the collapse of the Chargers in one week of football ever. By the way, if there's a Cubs/Red Sox World Series, does the world end?

1) Kansas City Chiefs (5-0)
Last Week: 1st, Defeated Denver 24-23
Dante Hall does it again in spectacular fashion.

2) Indianapolis Colts (5-0)
Last Week: 3rd, Defeated Tampa Bay 38-35 in OT
No team had ever come back from 21 points down with 4 minutes to play until the Colts did it last night.

3) Minnesota Vikings (5-0)
Last Week: 5th, Defeated Atlanta 39-26
Vikings off to their best start since 2000 (7-0).

4) Carolina Panthers (4-0)
Last Week: 8th, Defeated New Orleans 19-13
Stephen Davis became first player in franchise history to have 4-100 yard games to start season.

5) Miami Dolphins (3-1)
Last Week: 6th, Defeated NY Giants 23-10
Ricky Williams is contained, but rest of Dolphins offense can't be stopped.

6) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-2)
Last Week: 2nd, Lost to Indianapolis 38-35 in OT
They get a bad call go against them, but it should have never, ever gotten to that point. Not with this defense.

7) Denver Broncos (4-1)
Last Week: 7th, Lost to Kansas City 24-23
Broncos shoot themselves too many times in the foot in a winnable game.

8) Philadelphia Eagles (2-2)
Last Week: 12th, Defeated Washington 27-25
Eagles dodge a bullet to win first game ever at Lincoln Financial Field.

9) Green Bay Packers (3-2)
Last Week: 15th, Defeated Seattle 35-13
Brett Favre gets the pub, but it's Ahman Green that makes this team go.

10) Seattle Seahawks (3-1)
Last Week: 4th, Lost to Green Bay 35-13
Seattle allows Packers to score on first five possessions.

11) New England Patriots (3-2)
Last Week: 18th, Defeated Tennessee 38-30
Nobody circles the wagons better than Bill Belichick.

12) Buffalo Bills (3-2)
Last Week: 13th, Defeated Cincinnati 22-16 in OT
Bills staggering on offense, but put it together long enough to win.

13) Washington Redskins (3-2)
Last Week: 11th, Lost to Philadelphia 27-25
So very, very close Patrick Ramsey. Too bad Laveranues Coles is only 5'11".

14) Tennessee Titans (3-2)
Last Week: 10th, Lost to New England 38-30
Titans roll on offense, but special teams and field position do them in.

15) New York Giants (2-2)
Last Week: 9th, Lost to Miami 23-10
Giants turn the ball over 4 times, dropped two INTS, and lost their kicker.

16) Dallas Cowboys (3-1)
Last Week: 19th, Defeated Arizona 24-7
Guess who's on top of the NFC East?

17) St. Louis Rams (2-2)
Last Week: 17th, Bye
Their MNF matchup with the Falcons this week must've had ABC executives drooling a few months back.

18) Cleveland Browns (2-3)
Last Week: 19th, Defeated Pittsburgh 33-13
Looks like there's going to be a QB controversy in Cleveland after all.

19) Cincinnati Bengals (1-4)
Last Week: 21st, Lost to Buffalo 22-16 in OT
Young team making big strides to respectability.

20) Baltimore Ravens (2-2)
Last Week: 20th, Bye
Team could take AFC North lead with win in Arizona.

21) Pittsburgh Steelers (2-3)
Last Week: 14th, Lost to Cleveland 33-13
Tommy Maddox gets called out by Bill Cowher. Steelers could be headed for a big fall.

22) Oakland Raiders (2-3)
Last Week: 16th, Lost to Chicago 24-21
An unbelievable loss make old team look downright ancient.

23) Houston Texans (2-2)
Last Week: 23rd, Bye
This could be the team to watch...next season...

24) San Francisco 49ers (2-3)
Last Week: 26th, Defeated Detroit 24-17
Ho-hum. Niners beat a vulnerable team and all is well in the Bay Area again.

25) Detroit Lions (1-4)
Last Week: 24th, Lost to San Francisco 24-17
Lions can't quite put a whole game together just yet.

26) Chicago Bears (1-3)
Last Week: 31st, Defeated Oakland 24-21
Think people are paying attention to the Bears with the Cubbies in the NLCS?

27) Jacksonville Jaguars (1-4)
Last Week: 29th, Defeated San Diego 27-21
Jimmy Smith makes a triumphant return after his suspension.

28) Atlanta Falcons (1-4)
Last Week: 27th, Lost to Minnesota 39-26
Offense finally finds a rhythm early, but sputters late when it counts most.

29) New Orleans Saints (1-4)
Last Week: 25th, Lost to Carolina 19-13
Saints fumbling, stumbling, and bumbling in the Big Easy.

30) Arizona Cardinals (1-4)
Last Week: 28th, Lost to Dallas 24-7
Seeing Emmitt Smith wearing Cardinal red in Texas Stadium was just weird.

31) New York Jets (0-4)
Last Week: 30th, Bye
How hard is it to be Herm Edwards right about now?

32) San Diego Chargers (0-5)
Last Week: 32nd, Lost to Jacksonville
Horrible defense wasting away any great performances on offense for this team.
