Dr. J's NFL Rankings for Week 16

With just two weeks to go the New England Patriots have a stranglehold on the top seed and the Philadelphia Eagles are hot on their tails with their own nine game winning streak.

The New York Giants, meanwhile, have packed it in. At least the Arizona Cardinals are trying out there.

1) New England (12-2)
Last Week: 1st, Defeated Jacksonville 27-13
If there's any doubt to the importance of home field, look at what the last two home games for the Pats have looked like.

2) Philadelphia (11-3)
Last Week: 2nd, Defeated Miami 34-27
The last time the Eagles won nine in a row, they ended the year defeating Vince Lombardi's Packers in the NFL Championship game (1960).

3) Indianapolis (11-3)
Last Week: 3rd, Defeated Atlanta 38-7
Peyton Manning has thrown 25 or more touchdown passes in five straight seasons.

4) Kansas City (12-2)
Last Week: 4th, Defeated Detroit 45-17
Chiefs beat a team that they should for the AFC West title.

5) St. Louis (11-3)
Last Week: 5th, Defeated Seattle 27-22
How tough will the Rams be if they get to stay indoors throughout the playoffs?

6) Tennessee (10-4)
Last Week: 7th, Defeated Buffalo 28-26
Titans didn't need a miracle, just an accurate call from the replay officials.

7) Denver (9-5)
Last Week: 8th, Defeated Cleveland 23-20 in OT
Broncos keep playoff hopes alive, but strange play calling at the end of game may have cost them Clinton Portis.

8) Baltimore (8-6)
Last Week: 6th, Lost to Oakland 20-12
Brian Billick's inexplicable playcalling opened up a division they could have locked up with a win.

9) Cincinnati (8-6)
Last Week: 13th, Defeated San Francisco 41-38
Could the Bengals be in position for home field advantage in the 1st round of the playoffs?

10) Dallas (9-5)
Last Week: 10th, Defeated Washington 27-0
Cowboys force 6 turnovers including 3 INTs by Terrance Newman.

11) Carolina (9-5)
Last Week: 11th, Defeated Arizona 20-17
Panthers win first NFC South title in the short history of the division.

12) Green Bay (8-6)
Last Week: 14th, Defeated San Diego 38-21
Brett Favre can still bring it when his team needs it.

13) Miami (8-6)
Last Week: 9th, Lost to Philadelphia 34-27
It must be getting close to Christmas because the Dolphins are on a losing streak.

14) Minnesota (8-6)
Last Week: 12th, Lost to Chicago
Randy Moss short-arms a pass early and then has one ripped away in the end zone.

15) Seattle (8-6)
Last Week: 15th, Lost to St. Louis 27-22
Maybe if referees would stop getting in their way, the Seahawks could win a road game.

16) Tampa Bay (7-7)
Last Week: 16th, Defeated Houston 16-3
Buccaneers are still technically in the playoff hunt.

17) New Orleans (7-7)
Last Week: 17th, Defeated NY Giants 45-7
Joe Horn, it's been done before, now shut the hell up and play.

18) Chicago (6-8)
Last Week: 25th, Defeated Minnesota 13-10
Charles Tillman, take a bow...

19) NY Jets (6-8)
Last Week: 20th, Defeated Pittsburgh 6-0
Curtis Martin has rushed for at least 1,000 yards in each of his 9 years in the league.

20) San Francisco (6-8)
Last Week: 18th, Lost to Cincinnati 41-38
Good guy Kevan Barlow drops the ball twice in the red zone in wet and snowy Cincinnati.

21) Buffalo (6-8)
Last Week: 19th, Lost to Tennessee 28-26
If Bobby Shaw doesn't try to show the ball to the referees, I think they call it a catch.

22) Pittsburgh (5-9)
Last Week: 21st, Lost to NY Jets 6-0
Steelers bog down in the snow...aren't they used to that stuff?

23) Jacksonville (4-10)
Last Week: 24th, Lost to New England 27-13
Not a bad game for a team playing a rookie QB against that complex Patriots defense.

24) Washington (5-9)
Last Week: 22nd, Lost to Dallas 27-0
Daniel Snyder has already said Steve Spurrier will return for the 2004 season. Think he's having second thoughts?

25) San Diego (3-11)
Last Week: 29th, Lost to Green Bay 38-21
If the Chargers give Drew Brees a chance to grow, they might have something there.

26) Houston (5-9)
Last Week: 26th, Lost to Tampa Bay 16-3
Andre Johnson's drops cost the Texans at least a shot.

27) Cleveland (4-10)
Last Week: 27th, Lost to Denver 23-20 in OT
This time, it's Jake Plummer "pulling an Elway" on the Browns in Denver.

28) Atlanta (3-11)
Last Week: 23rd, Lost to Indianapolis
Looks like it will be Rich McKay's job to build around Michael Vick.

29) Oakland (4-10)
Last Week: 32nd, Defeated Baltimore 20-12
Raiders show something they haven't shown much of this season, pride.

30) Detroit (4-10)

Matt Millen talks to Johnnie Morton like a linebacker, but unfortunately, he's the GM...

Eli Manning, I hope you like the hot Arizona sun...

32) NY Giants (4-10)

Well, the Mets signed Mike Cameron too...
