Carlos Polk to IR; Downing signed

The San Chargers have plaved Carlos Pol on injured reserve and have signed Eric Downing to take his place on the roster.

Downing, 6-4, 315, played three seasons (2001-03) in Kansas City after being selected in the third-round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the Chiefs. He finished his career in Kansas City with 105 tackles and two sacks. Downing, who started 13 of 42 games played for the Chiefs, went to training camp with the team in 2004 and was waived prior to the start of the regular season. He will wear No. 93 for the Chargers.

A shoulder injury became aggitated this past weekend and will sideline Carlos Polk for the rest of the year. The injury originally reared its ugly head in the preseason.

Polk missed the Chargers 2004 season opener at Houston, but returned to the field in last Sunday's game against the New York Jets and recorded a special teams tackle. It was during the Jets game that Polk re-aggravated the injury.
