Chargers get ten, beat Tampa 31-24

The San Diego Chargers got their first ten win season since 1994, beating the Bucs 31-24 on Sunday. A late Donnie Edwards interception paved the way to victory.

Donnie Edwards intercepted his second pass of the game with four minutes to go in the game and broke a 21-21 tie by taking it 30 yards for a touchdown.

On the next drive, Steve Foley sacked Brian Griese, causing a fumble that was recovered by Shaun Phillips. Nate Kaeding put the Bolts up by ten with a 40 yard field goal with just over two minutes to play. Tampa Bay would get their own field goal but the Chargers recovered the onside kick and held on for a seven point victory.

The game was scoreless into the second quarter until Drew Brees hit Eric Parker for a 79 yard touchdown to get things rolling.

Tampa answered with a score of their own when Griese hit Joey Galloway in the corner of the end zone from 36 yards out to cap a five play drive. Griese went 4-for-4 for 79 yards on the drive.

San Diego went up by seven before halftime when Brees hit Kassim Osgood for a 19 yard touchdown reception. Brees went 5-for-7 for 65 yards on the drive.

The Bucs tied up the seesaw battle in the third quarter with Griese going 8-for-10, capping off a 68 yard drive by hitting Galloway in the back of the end zone.

LaDainian Tomlinson scored his 14th touchdown of the year and his 35 yard run setup a tough seven yard run to put the Chargers ahead 21-14. Tomlinson accounted for 55 yards on the 81-yard scoring drive.

The Bucs tied it after a rare Tomlinson fumble in the fourth quarter. Tomlinson had found a running lane but was stripped as he looked to make a move by the only defender left in his path. A personal foul on Jerry Wilson gave the Bucs life and Griese connected on a 20 yard score to Michael Clayton.

The Chargers turned the ball over three times and created four turnovers. Brees was intercepted twice, including one in the end zone to end a scoring drive. The Chargers intercepted three Griese passes and forced a fumble.
