Chargers close to Rossum; Surtain?

The Chargers signed one of their targets on Thursday, Bhawoh Jue, and could announce another on Friday. Allen Rossum is still in town and negotiations are expected to come to a close on Friday. News on the Patrick Surtain front and his link to the Chargers put things in perspective.

The Chargers signed Bhawoh Jue on Thursday to a three year deal and were entertaining Allen Rossum through the night.

Negotiations are ongoing for the services of the Pro Bowl returner.

Rossum had eight punt returns of twenty yards or more in 2004 and the Bolts are pressing hard to ensure he stays in San Diego.

He would bring an instant dynamic to the punt return game and his big play ability has to be accounted for.

He is also a credible defender that will contribute in the dime package. It is still expected that he will sign with San Diego.

Talk around the country surrounded the possible addition of Patrick Surtain and perhaps a deal with Miami that included, perhaps, Drew Brees.

That deal, however, is not in the cards and the Chargers are not at the table.

When asked whether the Chargers were interested in the services of Patrick Surtain, the representatives for Surtain replied firmly, "Not serious."

If not the Chargers, then who?

"Lots of teams are interested and have contacted us and a few are very serious."

The Chargers were admittedly one of those teams to make the cursory phone call but they have not seriously entered the bidding war that is expected to ensue for the services of Surtain.

After adding Jue to their secondary and closing in on Rossum, coupled with the fact that Quentin Jammer will not be moving to safety and Drayton Florence unlikely to make the move as well, Surtain would be a luxury they cannot afford.

Also, it was reported that Kenoy Kennedy was scheduled to visit the Bolts. Indications are that was never true and with the signing of Jue it seems certain that Kennedy will not be making a trip to San Diego.
