Chargers cut two; Van Buren to IR

The San Diego Chargers released two more players on Tuesday to get down to the NFL mandated roster size of 65, plus any exemptions for those who have played in NFL Europe, and placed Courtney Van Buren on injured reserve.

Center David Brandt and tight end Sean Brewer were released by the club on Tuesday.

Brandt was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Redskins in 2001. He retired for a year before his rights were traded to Green Bay. He signed with the Chargers in October of 2003.

Brewer, 6-foot-4, 255-pounds, was originally a third round draft choice of Cincinnati in the 2001 NFL Draft, taken 66th overall. He spent time wih Atlanta and Washington before joining San Diego in May.

Courtney Van Buren was drafted by the Chargers in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft, 80th overall. He was placed on injured reserve after the second week of play in the 2004 season.
