Chargers lose in final seconds, 24-22

Up by one with minutes left in the game, the Chargers went for two and were denied. Those two points ended up being the difference in the game when Jeff Reed nailed a 40-yaard field goal with six seconds to go to give Pittsburgh the 24-22 win.

The Bolts bounced back from a 14-point deficit, getting a touchdown from Drew Brees to Antonio Gates late in the second quarter to cut the lead to seven.

Nate Kaeding hit field goals from 34, 32, and 41 yards, the last one giving the Chargers their first lead of the game early in the fourth quarter, 16-14.

It took the Steelers a minute and 11 seconds to regain the lead, capped by an 11-yard touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Heath Miller. Roethlisberger has hit Hines Ward on consecutive plays to setup the score.

The Bolts used up ten minutes of the clock on their next drive, an 11-play, 62-yard drive that ended when LaDainian Tomlinson punched it in from two yards out to give San Diego a 24-21 lead. The two-point conversion failed.

On the strength of Jerome Bettis, the Steelers ate up the rest of the game clock and converted on Reed's 40-yard field goal to give them the win.

The Steelers scored twice in the second quarter, one on a Roethlisberger sneak from seven yards out and the other a one-yard run from Bettis.
