Chargers' offense record setting

The Chargers are 4-4 this season and the team's four losses have been by a total of 12 points. The Chargers have not lost by more than four points in 22 consecutive games, including playoffs. It is tied for the sixth-longest streak in NFL history. They tied the Dallas Cowboys (1971-72) for the sixth-longest streak in league history, dating back to 1950. They can tie for fifth-longest if they accomplish the feat next week.

With a nine-yard reception in the fourth quarter, Keenan McCardell passed Andre Rison for 21st on the all-time list in receiving yards with 10,207. He entered the game 71 yards shy of the Rison (10,205).

With his five receptions on Sunday, McCardell tied Isaac Bruce for 13th on the all-time list in receptions with 786.

LaDainian Tomlinson hit Eric Parker for a 17-yard touchdown pass on a halfback option in the second quarter.

Tomlinson is 3-for-3 for 47 yards with three touchdown passes on the year. It is the first time a running back has thrown for three touchdowns in one season. He passed the mark he held along with Alfred Anderson in 1984 with Minnesota.

"Cam does a great job scheming defenses," said Tomlinson.

Tomlinson is 5-for-6 for 106 yards with four touchdowns in his career.

During the bye week, Tomlinson will become the third player in TCU history to have his number retired. He joins Sammy Baugh and Davey Obrien as alumnus who have been honored.

"He has a higher quarterback passing than anyone in the game at this point," said quarterback Drew Brees.

Drew Brees threw the ball 27 times in the first half, completing 16 for 233 yards and two touchdowns. His 35-yard touchdown pass to Gates in the fourth quarter pushed Brees to 324 yards on the day. His last 300-yard day came in the playoffs versus the New York Jets when he threw for 319 yards. His last regular season 300-yard game came against the Chiefs on Nov. 28 of last year. It is his seventh career 300-yard game, including playoffs.

"To have a great passing game you need a lot of guys who can make plays and right now we have a lot of guys making plays," McCardell said.

Lorenzo Neal's 17-yard reception in the first quarter was his longest reception since 1996 while he was with New Orleans when he netted a pass reception of 23 yards.

Reche Caldwell fumbled for the second straight week on Sunday. After a first down completion from Brees, Caldwell made a nifty move to allude one tackler but was hit from behind by Jared Allen as the ball popped out.

"I never saw (Allen) come up on me at all on the play," said Caldwell. "At the last minute I felt him come up on me and I should have covered the ball up better. He stripped the ball from me from behind and they were able to get the ball back."

Schottenheimer had a talk with Caldwell after the fumble and the receiver slammed his helmet on the ground after words from the head coach.
