PREDICTION: Colts 24-21
Colts coach Tony Dungy insists his team will come out with the intention to win despite wrapping up home-field advantage, but he is still expected to rest nicked up players like DT Corey Simon and LB Cato June.
The Chargers, meanwhile, come in desperate for a victory and need RB LaDainian Tomlinson to have a big game to keep the Colts' defensive speed in check. He was slowed by a chest injury last week, but said he's feeling better. If the Colts can contain him and come after QB Drew Brees, they could force a few key turnovers.
The question offensively for the Colts' offense is how aggressive will they be? RB Edgerrin James is on pace to set the NFL record for rushing attempts in a season and will likely be spelled more by Dominic Rhodes. The Chargers' front seven must slow the tandem so San Diego can offer as much help as possible to its beleaguered secondary.
Chargers: Tomlinson needs one touchdown to break Chuck Muncie's franchise single-season record of 20. ... Brees has a 100.7 passer rating on third down.
Colts: Seek to tie the record for most consecutive victories to start a season set by Miami in 1972. ... Are the first team to win each of their first 13 games by at least seven points. The 1942 Chicago Bears are the only team to win every regular-season game by at least seven points.
LaDainian Tomlinson (chest) hasn't missed a practice this week and is all set for Sunday.
Luis Castillo (hip) didn't practice Thursday, but he will do some light work on Friday. If he can't go, DeQuincy Scott would replace him. But Castillo was upbeat about his chances of playing on Sunday.
Jamal Williams (ill) wasn't at practice Thursday. The team thinks he will be fine for Sunday.
Sammy Davis (ill) wasn't at practice Thursday but should be fine for Sunday.
Nick Harper suffered a lower leg injury in practice Wednesday but is expected to play this week against San Diego. Harper went through a full workout on Thursday.
Cato June returned to practice Thursday and has been given the green light to play against the Chargers. June did not practice last week or play at Jacksonville due to knee/ankle/sports hernia injuries.
Corey Simon has yet to practice this week and is not expected to play against San Diego on Sunday. Simon suffered a sprained left foot at Jacksonville last week.
Tarik Glenn practiced on Friday after battling a bout of stomach flu. Glenn is expected to start against the Chargers on Sunday.
Josh Thomas practiced Thursday and is expected to play against the Chargers this week. Thomas has been bothered by a sore shoulder.
Robert Mathis has not practiced this week and probably will not play against San Diego. Mathis is nursing a sore left foot.
Reggie Wayne left practice early Thursday due to back spasms but returned on Friday.
