Chargers hire Ramsdell to coach quarterbacks

The San Diego Chargers hired John Ramsdell as their quarterbacks coach, taking over the spot made vacant when Brian Schottenheimer left to become the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets.

Ramsdell interviewed with the Chargers on Tuesday and Wednesday in San Diego before accepting the job.

While coaching the Rams' signal-callers, Ramsdell guided QB Marc Bulger to three of the top six passing games in Rams' history, as well as Bulger's ascension up the Rams' all-time passing charts to sixth. Ramsdell also tutored two-time NFL MVP Kurt Warner as quarterbacks coach, helping Warner make his mark on the NFL record books.

Ramsdell, 51, had been with the Rams for all 11 seasons that the franchise has been in St. Louis. In that time, he has coached quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends at various times.

While he has no pro experience, Ramsdell was a coach at San Francisco State 1976-77, Long Beach State 1978, Pacific 1979-1982, Oregon 1983-1994
