Godfrey will return in 2006

Chargers.com has reported that linebacker Randall Godfrey will return to the San Diego Chargers for the 2006 season.

Dismissing an earlier report that had Randall Godfrey signing a contact with the Dallas Cowboys and retiring, the linebacker told Chargers.com that he will return for one more year in blue and gold.

"I think if the guys continue to work hard, we can do some great things and possibly be a team similar to Pittsburgh," Godfrey said. "I just think this team has so much potential. Now is the time to get on the Chargers' bandwagon, not jump off it."

A second round pick by Dallas in 1996, Godfrey placed second on the team in tackles this past season with 77 and notched four fumble recoveries.

At 32, Godfrey will play in his 11th professional season in 2006 and will help anchor a front seven that ranked first against the run in the NFL last year.
