Tryout only

The San Diego Chargers have invited the strongest defensive back in collegiate football in for a tryout.

Hawaii strong safety Lono Manners will be given a shot to be signed by the Chargers after he works out for the team. Manners suffered a season-ending injury as a junior after seven games and 32 tackles as a free safety.

This past year, Manners amassed 71 tackles with two sacks, one interception, six passes defensed and two forced fumbles from his strong safety position.

At 5-foot-10, 216-pounds, Manners pumped up 30 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press at his Pro Day and at one time led his weight class in a single bench press at the age of 17 when he threw up 385.7 pounds.

Manners ran the forty-yard dash in 4.84 and .4.82 while completing the short shuttle in 4.31. He added a three-cone drill of 6.66 seconds, along with a 37.5 vertical jump and 9-foot-3 broad.

Manners also has workouts scheduled with the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons.
