Watkins Talks of his Commitment

Haywood High School defensive end Alex Watkins made his verbal commitment to Alabama Friday afternoon. The Scout.com three-star prospect becomes the Tide's seventh out-of-state commitment for the 2007 class.

"I made my commitment to Alabama today," said Alex Watkins from Brownsville, (Tenn.). "I called coach [Sparky] Woods and told him of my decision. I talked to him and coach [Mike] Shula. They were both very excited.'

Watkins talks of his reasons for choosing the Tide.

"They have real nice facilities and a nice program," he said. "I like how they run things."

The Scout.com three-star defensive end committed to the Tide after spending last weekend in Tuscaloosa.

"I went to their camp last Sunday," Watkins said. "I liked it a lot. I enjoyed working out with the defensive ends coach [David Turner]."

"I am finished with my recruitment. I am 100% committed to Alabama."
