Tomlinson cementing MVP status

The Chargers are 9-0 this season and have won 21-straight games in which LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for more than 100 yards. He fell one yard shy of notching his fifth 200-yard game on Sunday.

LaDainian Tomlinson's 30th touchdown of the year gave him 180 points for the season, breaking Paul Hornung's NFL season scoring record of 176 points in 1960. Hornung reached 176 points by scoring 15 touchdowns (90 points), while kicking 15 field goals (45 points) and 41 PATs.

"It is incredible," said Tomlinson. It has been a magic run. Tremendous records and we are happy to have it."

Tomlinson's 85-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was the longest of his NFL career. His previous long had been a 76-yard run on December 1, 2002 against Denver. It is the third-longest run in Chargers' history.

"It was well executed," head coach Marty Schottenheimer said. "There was a soft spot and we were able to get LT through the hole."

"It was perfect blocking," Tomlinson confirmed. "The way you chalk it up on the chalkboard is the way it went down. I just had to run through the hole."

His 28 rushing touchdowns are the most rushing touchdowns in a single season, breaking the mark previously held by Shaun Alexander and Priest Holmes.

Tomlinson has scored 100 career rushing touchdowns in 93 games, becoming the league's fastest to 100 (Emmitt Smith, 99 games). Also, he has scored 111 total touchdowns in 93 games, the fastest player in NFL history to accomplish the feat.

"Anytime he runs behind you makes you look better than you are," right tackle Shane Olivea said.

Only seven players in NFL history have ever scored 100 rushing touchdowns. His two scores pushed him past Barry Sanders' 99 rushing touchdowns and tied Marshall Faulk's 100. He also moved into sole possession on the all-time touchdown list with 111, surpassing Sanders' 109. Lenny Moore is in 11th place with 113 on the all-time touchdown list.

It is the eighth straight game he has scored two or more touchdowns, breaking the record he shared with John Riggins (1983). It is also the eighth straight game he has surpassed the 100-yard barrier and gave him over 2,000 yards from scrimmage for the third time in his career and first since 2003. He has a team record nine 100-yard games this year.

"LT is a hell of a football player," said offensive guard Kris Dielman. "I love blocking for him. He is a great guy and gives us credit for blocking for him."

Tomlinson gained 43 yards on the Chargers opening possession with three runs of ten or more and had 141 yards on nine carries going into halftime. He ended the game one-yard shy of 200. Michael Turner also added 58 yards on seven carries.

"We knew we were going to do our talking on Sunday," Olivea said, referring to the soft comment made by Tamba Hali. "And 260-something yards speaks for itself."
