Chargers comments on departed Phillips

San Diego Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer is happy for his former defensive coordinator - Wade Phillips, the new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. The players are just as happy for their former coach.

Marty Schottenheimer:

"We'd like to congratulate Wade Phillips on being named head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. He's done an outstanding job as the Chargers' defensive coordinator over the past three seasons. Under his guidance, our defense has established itself as one of the best units in the NFL. Wade's ability to organize and teach will provide the Cowboys with success in the near future."

"We are already in the process of searching for a replacement for Wade. Our sole objective is to hire the very best coach available."

Defensive End Luis Castillo

"It's going to be great for Dallas' defense. Those guys are going to love his system. They've been in a straight-forward 3-4 defense where they were two-gapping. They're going to do a lot more moving, a lot more blitzing. They're going to have a lot more opportunities to make plays."

"Wade is a guy who is always calm and collected. He knows football and has been around a ton of great players. He knows how it's supposed to be done. He's going to get those guys playing hard and playing right."

Linebacker Shaun Phillips

"He's a player's coach. He knows how to utilize everyone's ability and get the most out of them. I've never been around a coach like that before. I know he's going to do a good job in Dallas because Wade is a great coach and they have a lot of talent."

Safety Marlon McCree

"I enjoyed playing for Wade a great deal. He really understands his players' strengths and does a great job of playing to those strengths. That made us a very good defense. I think he'll do a great job in Dallas."
