Chargers Day Two Picks: Final tally

The San Diego Chargers opened up the second day of the NFL Draft by selecting Iowa tight end Scott Chandler, 129th overall. They added wide receiver Legedu Naanee next.

  • Scott Chandler finished his Iowa career ranked second all-time among Hawkeye tight ends in receptions and yards. As a senior, he earned second-team all-Big Ten honors with 46 catches for 591 yards and six touchdowns.

His ability to shield defenders from the ball saw him produce 27 first downs among his 44 receptions in 2006, converting 10 third-down catches and two more on fourth-down along the way.

Originally a wide receiver, Chandler switched to tight end after his freshman season – a move that proved to be wise.

He could add even more bulk to a 6-foot-7, 257-pound frame. And with that add strength to be a terror in the blocking game.

  • After going tight end with their previous pick, the Chargers went back to the wide receiver well in round five, picking Legedu Naanee with their compensatory pick, 172nd overall.

Naanee, at 6-foot-2, 225-pounds, moved from quarterback to wide receiver and found a home – earning first-team All-Western Athletic Conference honors last year.

A workout warrior that has thick legs and torso, Naanee ranked third on the team with 35 catches for 541 yards (15.5 avg.) and six touchdowns while starting all 13 games.

Considered a strong presence on special teams, Naanee has the potential to develop into a solid receiver at the NFL level.

  • The Bolts closed out the draft with the selection of Florida inside linebacker Brandon Siler, 240th overall.

Siler fought through a knee injury late in the 2006 season, but ranked second on the team with 77 tackles (55 solos). He posted three sacks, three pressures and 10 stops for losses, and caused and recovered one fumble.

He has good quickness and range but is not fast. While he isn't an ideal coverage linebacker, Siler does wrap up his tackles well and eludes blockers to make plays.

A fantastic value pick that some had rated as a first-day pick.
