Chargers to sign two undrafted linebackers

The San Diego Chargers will sign two undrafted linebackers, one who will be an edge rusher and the other who figures to fight for a spot in the middle.

The Bolts will sign Northwestern linebacker Nick Roach and San Diego State's Antwan Applewhite - a defensive end that will move to outside linebacker.

An intelligent prospect who plays fast, Roach has plenty of upside if he remains healthy.

Three-year starter who posted 62/4/2 in eight games as a senior before suffering a season-ending leg injury. Junior totals included 77 tackles after a career-high 83 tackles as a sophomore.

Explosive linebacker who plays heads-up football. Displays outstanding range on the field, makes plays sideline-to-sideline and quickly closes to the action. Gets depth on drops, nicely redirects to the action and displays good hands for the pick. Athletic and plays faster than his forty-time.

More of a chase-and-rundown linebacker rather than a defender who forces the action. Set back with a lot of injury problems in college.

Starting Outside Linebacker [Will] for the Wildcats. Plays on the weak side of the offense.

Team leader in tackles, selected Fox Sports Midseason NU MVP.

A solid athlete who has displayed a variety of skills, Applewhite has the tools to be used as a rush linebacker in the NFL. Needs time to develop his game yet offers a good degree of upside.

Two-year starter awarded All-Conference honors after his junior and sophomore campaigns. Totals last season included 52/8/6 after 56/8.5/5.5 the prior year.

Fast, undersized defensive end who projects to linebacker at the next level. Quick off the snap, immediately alters his angle of attack and displays speed in every direction. Loses little momentum when he must change direction. Shows abilities backpedaling off the line and playing in space. Reads the action and does not bite on ball fakes.

Small at defensive end, controlled by opponents or driven off the line of scrimmage. Does not consistently chase hard to get involved in the action.
