Chargers Recap

For the second straight week the Chargers defense dominated the game. After letting up 6 points vs. the Bengals, they let up 3 points vs. the Texans.

Junior Seau led the way with 7 tackles, 1 sack and 1 INT which was returned 25 yards and set up a TD run by Curtis Conway which made it 14-0 late in the first quarter.

He was not the only bright spot of the day. Rookie Ben Leber had 3 sacks and forced a fumble by sacking David Carr in the end zone where Raylee Johnson, who also contributed 1.5 sacks, pounced on for the only TD in the second half. Marcellus Wiley also had 2 sacks, Carlos Polk had 1 and Donnie Edwards had a half sack.

Carr was sacked a total of 9 times and the Houston offense managed only 118 yards for the game. Under pressure all day Carr threw 2 interceptions, the one to Seau, and one to Vernon Fox late in the 4th quarter who was in for the injured Rodney Harrison.

The Chargers came out on the opening drive and set the tone for the game with a TD. LaDainian Tomlinson ran 5 times for 20 yards on the drive and Josh Norman caught a ball from Drew Brees for 18 yards. Conway capped it off by catching an underthrown ball at the 3 and taking it in for a TD for a completion of 35 yards from Brees. Brees intentionally threw the ball short as the Houston corner anticipated the ball going into the end zone and over played the ball. Conway ended the game with 5 cacthes for 113 yards.

Drew Brees was nearly sacked for a safety by Jeff Posey in a strange play in the second quarter and ended up 15-28 for 163 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.

Tomlinson ended the game with 84 yards rushing on 27 carries.

Houston's only score was a 45-yard FG by Kris Brown in the second quarter. San Diego's Steve Christie kicked a 36-yarder for a 17-3 halftime lead.
