Kelly Griffeth is similar to Brandon Manumaleuna, only he's a slightly worse blocker and significantly worse receiver. While he does a nice job of generating movement and picking up blitzes, he was outshined by rookie Scott Chandler. Although Chandler is still developing as a blocker, his 6-foot-7 frame makes for an enticing target downfield.
Gabe Franklin was in his third and likely final stint with the team. He keeps earning an invite back because he works hard and shines on special teams, but he has been unable to develop into consistent cover corner.
As bad as Warren's odds were, Brian Monroe's were even worse. There is a silver lining for Monroe, however, as he could be brought back on the practice squad. It is always a luxury to have a practice squad player who can occasionally handle punts and kickoffs during the week. Mike Scifres and Nate Kaeding would certainly appreciate the rest.
As for Race, his season-ending injury is a compliment from the team. That is a formal invitation to come back next year, when Michael Turner is sure to be gone, and to give his roster pursuit another try.
The Chargers roster is currently at 69 players. The team will make 16 more moves by Saturday afternoon.
