Colts 'Pey' Up

It's raining, it's pouring, and the Chargers stopped scoring. Two touchdowns on special teams and six interceptions bailed out an offense that is downright dysfunctional. The Chargers held on for a 23-21 win and have sole possession of first place in the AFC West.

--San Diego is 4-0 when facing the previous season's Super Bowl champs. The current Lombardi holders were no exception. The Chargers lead the overall series against the Colts, 14-9.

--Peyton Manning saw six of his passes end up in the Chargers hands. The six-pack was a career-high for the 10-year veteran. Antonio Cromartie accounted for three of them. In three of the past four games, Cromartie has intercepted at least one pass.

--The defense stole the Colts good-luck horseshoe. Joseph Addai, second only to Adrian Peterson in rushing yards, was helped to a piece of humble pie with 55 yards on 22 carries.

--In Shawne Merriman's second-career start against the Colts, he was quiet with only three tackles and no sacks. In 2005, Manning faced a different Merriman. In that game, Merriman recorded a solo sack, two assists and three tackles for a loss. The performance earned Merriman Defensive Player of the Week from and Rookie of the Week honors from

--While "Lights Out" had an off game, the Chargers shone under the bright lights. The Chargers have won their last four home games in prime time.

--In five games, the Chargers have scored five touchdowns on special teams. The five-game total includes Cromartie's 109-yard return of a missed field goal in week nine against the Minnesota Vikings.

--Tomlinson has rushed for at least one touchdown in four of his last five regular-season home games and ten of his last 13.

--Antonio Gates will try again next week for his fourth 100-yard game of the season. Gates received 26 yards on three receptions against the Colts.

--The Denver Broncos win over the Kansas City Chiefs left both teams tied for second in the AFC West. The Raiders, who started the season in first, bottom out the pack with just two wins. The Chargers stand alone in first and are the only team in the division without a losing record.
