Charger Unjury Update
"The youngsters are getting a lot of work out here because the starters are standing along the sidelines with me,'' he said.
Those not working out on Thursday were Pro Bowl LB Junior Seau (ankle) and DE Marcellus Wiley (groin), and TEs Josh Norman (calf) and Stephen Alexander (foot/ankle).
Norman and Alexander won't play Sunday; rookie Justin Peelle will make his first NFL start instead. Peelle has been mainly a blocking tight end this year and will need to make plays downfield in the passing game if the Chargers hope to be effective. Ed Ellis will also spend some time at the TE position as a blocker. Steve Heiden was resigned to the practice squad this week but it is unclear on whether he will be promoted to the active roster.
Schottenheimer did not sound optimistic about the chances of Seau or Wiley playing this weekend.
"Neither one worked at all this week,'' Schottenheimer said. "We will have to wait until Sunday, but I'm not real encouraged. We'll see.''
The Chargers' two other Pro Bowlers, cornerback Ryan McNeil (knees) and safety Rodney Harrison (groin), both practiced.
Safety Rogers Beckett (chest), RB Terrell Fletcher (ankle), and WR-KR Tamarick Vanover (thigh) are all listed as questionable for the game this Sunday.
It's safe to say the bye week could not have come at a better time for these Chargers.
Raider Injury Update
RB Randy Jordan, Oakland's special-teams captain, is listed as doubtful with a groin pull and may be out for the more than just this week.
"We're going to back him down for a good two weeks, and possibly more than that," Callahan said.
Charles Woodsen has been upgraded from doubtful to probable this week in a strange story, which has been covered by our insiders in a featured article.
DT Roderick Coleman (ankle/knee), T Barry Sims (toe), and LB Travian Smith (neck) are all listed as questionable fro the Raiders.
Charlie Garner is listed as probable but there is no doubt he will play.
