PASSING OFFENSE: A -- Philip Rivers played only the first half and went 14-for-21 for 142 yards and a score. But more important, he didn't turn the ball over. Billy Volek got just one attempt in a relief role. Good stuff from Chris Chambers as he continues to blend in with the offense. He led the team with four catches for 69 yards. The pass rush was non-existent from the Lions, which means the guys up front did a good job by not allowing a sack.
RUSHING OFFENSE: A -- Never in team history had the Chargers had two players rush for 100 yards in the same game. But LaDainian Tomlinson rumbled for 116 yards with two touchdowns before being shown to the bench. Then Darren Sproles came in and rushed for a game-high and career-high 122 yards and two touchdowns. The run blocking was solid, and kudos to FB Andrew Pinnock, who is filling in for injured Pro Bowler Lorenzo Neal. Pinnock is being looked at more as a running back, but he is doing well in the fullback role.
PASS DEFENSE: A -- San Diego grabbed five interceptions, as the ball-hawking Chargers were able to play strictly the pass when the Lions fell behind by so much. Antonio Cromartie got his 10th interception on the year, which set a franchise record. The pass rush wasn't much -- Shawne Merriman wasn't on the field -- but the back end was solid.
RUSH DEFENSE: A -- Tough to grade here as the Lions seldom run, and then when looking at a 27-0 deficit, they weren't going to stay low to the ground. That said, when the Lions did run, they didn't get very far. They rushed for but 26 yards on nine carries, with a long of 8.
SPECIAL TEAMS: A -- Mike Scifres averaged 51.2 yards gross and net on two punts, and Nate Kaeding was 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts, including a 45-yarder. The Lions managed just 15.6 yards on 10 kickoff returns.
COACHING: A -- Norv Turner gets credit for keeping his team interested against a far lesser opponent. The Chargers did what you have to do against a sorry team -- get on it early and not let the opponent hang around. Tomlinson got involved quickly, and that was more than enough for Lions. Turner got blasted in Southern California when the Chargers were 1-3, so he deserves praise now for helping the Chargers to their third AFC West title in four years.
