Chargers Meet with Dynamite D-Back in Indy

The Chargers took full advantage of each minute spent in Indianapolis. After evaluating their roster's defensive-back needs, the Bolts convened with a prospect who could furnish their deficiencies. This prospect comes from a top-ranked school and has the experience and size to transition seamlessly to the NFL.

The Chargers ushered Jonathan Zenon of LSU aside for a private meeting at the Combine. Zenon (6'0", 180 pounds) utilized his highly desirably build on the field, giving a performance that pleased the Bolts' eyes.

Zenon started 26 consecutive games at cornerback. He concluded his senior year recording 45 tackles, three interceptions, nine pass break-ups and one forced fumble. From his years as a Tiger, Zenon knows that most team success comes from a united vision.

"Our number one rule on our team is to play for ourselves. We play for the coaches; we play for the fans, but with no distractions on us. When we're on the field, we're playing football. That's all we're doing is playing football," he said.

One of Zenon's greatest assets is his range. His impressive size and grand leaping ability are bound to frustrate receivers at the next level. A combination of field instincts, quickness and agility gives Zenon a solid base for life in the NFL.

Zenon's speed might be an issue after he recorded a 4.58-second 40-yard dash at the Combine. While this could be a disadvantage against deep threats, the Bolts know that with the right scheme and an intense training regimen, Zenon could still showcase his skills on Sundays.

Zenon would be an important aspect to the Bolts' offseason. CB Drayton Florence is scheduled for unrestricted free agency and is not expected to re-sign.

Although Paul Oliver was expected to replace Florence, Oliver remained fixed on the inactive list after being picked up in the supplemental draft. If Zenon is adorned with the Bolts' armor, the coaches could continue grooming Oliver for a more suitable role at the dime-back spot.

With tremendous field vision and knack for finding the football, the Bolts see Zenon's raw talent and envision it being morphed into a fierce force in Qualcomm Stadium.
