"They're special," said linebacker Junior Seau. "They are definitely special. The last time we wore them we went to the Super Bowl. Hopefully, we can have some of that rub off on us on Sunday."
"I think all of us are a little excited by it because everybody likes the throwback jerseys," said wide receiver Curtis Conway.
"I'm pumped," said quarterback Drew Brees. "I think the powder blues are awesome. I think it is fun for the fans, and I'm sure it is fun for the guys who wore them as their full-time jerseys back in the day. I'm looking forward to it."
"This is my first time wearing them, so I think it's going to be special for me," said running back LaDainian Tomlinson. "I've never worn them before. I've heard so much about it. I'm excited about wearing them. I think a lot of the guys are. That's kind of been the topic of conversation so far. I think a lot of guys are excited about wearing the Throwbacks."
"It's going to be tough to get on that ground that first time and stretch because I don't want to get them dirty," said defensive end Marcellus Wiley. "It's going to be exciting for the fans. I'm the biggest kid out there so I'm going to be very excited to see them, too."
Bobby Ross and Stan Humphries will be on the sidelines today, as they get inducted into the Chargers Hall of Fame at halftime.
"It's pretty fun to see guys who are being inducted into the Chargers Hall of Fame, and here I am still in the huddle,'' said Seau.
"When I think Bobby Ross, I think blue collar, about work ethic. I think about fairness, and I think about a guy that isn't corporate. He is a guy where you either work or you get the hell out. Something similar to what we have now, which is Martyball.''
Back in 94 the Chargers were a Super Bowl bunch, not they hope the similarities lead them to the promised land again. It starts today against the 2-5 Jets.
Some positive signs that the Bolts can get it done in style:
* The Jets are ranked 31th in the NFL in rushing defense, allowing an average of 156.7 yards per game, while the Chargers are ranked No. 2 in the NFL in rushing offense, averaging 161.7 yards per game. The Jets have allowed 12 rushing TDs this season and the Chargers have scored 12.
* The Jets are ranked 30th in the NFL in rushing offense, averaging a paltry 77.9 yards per game, while the Chargers own the No. 2-ranked rushing defense in the league, allowing only 78.7 yards per game. The Jets have scored only two rushing TDs this season while the Chargers' defense has allowed only one.
* The Jets are worst in the NFL in time of possession, holding on to the ball for an average of only 25:56 per game while their opponents dominate with the ball for 34:04. The Chargers hold on to the ball for more than three minutes more than their opponents.
* The Jets enter the game with a first-year starter at quarterback in Chad Pennington and an OL that has been inconsistent, already allowing 19 sacks, matching the total the team allowed last season. The Chargers' defense is fourth in the NFL with 22 sacks.
Josh Norman is out for the Chargers with a calf injury. Rodney Harrison is serving his one game suspension for a hit on Jerry Rice Oct. 20th. Offensive tackle Kareem McKenzie (ankle) was elevated from questionable to probable, LB Morris Lewis (ankle) remained probable and DT Jason Ferguson (shoulder) remained questionable. If Ferguson cannot play, James Reed will start in his place. DE John Abraham twisted an ankle in Thursday's practice, but did not make the injury report and was pronounced "fine" by Coach Herman Edwards after practice.
