Kick and punt returner Tamarick Vanover was released today by the San Diego Chargers. Tim Dwight had taken his place in the lineup on punt returns and performed well with a 11 yard average on three returns against St. Ronney Jenkins also returned to the field and had his best game of the season averaging 33 yards per return. Reche Caldwell will take his place on kickoff returns.
Vanover played in seven games for the Chargers this season and was inactive for two others, one due to injury and the other time he was benched (this past week in St. Louis).
Vanover averaged 23.1 yards on 14 kickoff returns and 5.4 yards on 16 punt returns.
Vanover was not active in the receiving game and did not account for a single catch on the season.
