Michael Kranzler: How did you like visiting the Hall of Fame in Canton?
Mike Tolbert: Oh, it was a great experience. I got to see a lot of players that I looked up to when I was coming up, playing ball. I actually got to see [Chargers Receivers Coach] Charlie Joiner's bust up there, so it was a great experience.
MK: What exactly is a Chanticleer [Coastal Carolina's Mascot]?
MT: It's a fighting rooster. It's like the best cockfighters in the world, so it's a fighting rooster.
MK: What led you to go to Coastal Carolina?
MT: I just liked the scenery. It was my third visit and I had a couple other offers, but Coastal Carolina was the only one that made me feel at home. I had a couple of big-time offers, but Coastal Carolina was the only one that made me feel at home.

MT: When I got to Coastal, they asked me what I wanted to play. I basically told the coaches, "whatever you need me to do, I'll do it for you." They wanted me at fullback, so that's what I did. I still love defense, but I love offense, too, so I just did whatever they wanted me to do.
MK: The fullback has a very important role in the Chargers' offense. What do you feel you can bring to the offense when you're on the field?
MT: Versatility. I can catch the ball; I can run the ball; I can block; I can do special teams; I can do it all, so versatility.
MK: Have any of the veterans begun to mentor you on the field?
MT: Of course. Andrew Pinnock, he's been a real help. He's injured right now, but he helps me out with the playbook. As far as socially, people like Antonio Cromartie, Jyles Tucker, and Antwan Appelwhite, those guys have really helped me off the field with getting used to the environment out here. It's so different from South Carolina.
MK: What do you like to do in your spare time?
MT: In my spare time, I like to get my rest. I like to sleep. But I also like to hang out with a couple of my teammates. I've got a few teammates who I really got close with, like Brian Bonner, DeJuan Tribble and Billy Pittman. They're also rookies and we got kind of close over the past few weeks, so I hang out with those guys, go to the mall and stuff like that.
