Three to Watch: Bubble Players

With training camp in full swing, the San Diego Chargers roster will be taking shape soon and players are doing everything in their power to make sure they aren't the ones on the chopping block.'s Samantha Fillerup looks at three players that could go either way.

1. Cornerback DeJuan Tribble

The sixth-round draft pick is small in size but a serious playmaker. He has put on a show at training camp by continually getting in the way of the Chargers receivers. With the loss of Drayton Florence, the Chargers' secondary is a little thin and those remaining will have to fill the void.

Tribble racked up 15 interceptions during his time at Boston College, is aggressive and has good field awareness. He sustained a sprained MCL at the end of his senior season, which caused him to miss a few games and could be one reason he is put on the practice squad.

2. Offensive Tackle Tony Pape

Unfortunately for Pape, he's already felt the sting of the cut. He was signed with the Chargers in February 2007 and was subsequently assigned to NFL Europe. Originally drafted in the seventh-round by the Miami Dolphins in 2004, his soaring height, brutal strength and performance at training camp make him a likely candidate to be the fourth tackle on the roster. If Pape is chosen for the fourth spot, rookie Corey Clark will be demoted to the practice squad this season.

3. Inside Linebacker Tim Dobbins

Dobbins has established himself as a vital member of the special teams unit, but has yet to find his niche on the Chargers' talent-packed defense. He filled in for Matt Wilhelm for two games last season and struggled against the top quarterbacks in the league, Brett Favre and Tom Brady.

Dobbins is a relentless hitter and recorded 15 special teams tackles in 2007. The linebacker unit is deep and if he cannot show he can make a difference on defense his kick coverage skills may not be enough to keep him. However Stephen Cooper's four-game suspension may be his last chance to prove his skills and win a spot on the roster, but like in anything else, there are no guarantees.
