--Matt Wilhelm kept Darren Sproles from receiving a pass up the middle, displaying his solid footwork and body control. Wilhelm is looking to build on the ample progress he made last season in his first year as a starter (click here to read more).
--Scott Chandler's size and height towered over Eric Weddle as the second-year tight end hauled in an impressive catch over the middle. However, Chandler was later denied a pass on a deflection by Stephen Cooper.
QB Philip Rivers
--Mike Tolbert continues to show versatility and natural instincts. He has a strong ability to read his keys and successfully reacts in a split second using his speed and agility. One one play, while Tolbert found himself closely covered by Anthony Waters, he cut back to ball to find Waters still by his side and pivoted upfield to receive an over-head pass. Waters got beat again by Wade Betschart on his next rep.
--Tolbert continues to work with the first team at fullback while rotating with Andrew Pinnock. In the first seven-on-seven drill, Tolbert helped open a hole for L.T. to cut up the seam, where Rivers found him for a pass. Jacob Hester rotated with Pinnock on the second team, both working to open up holes for Sproles.
--Cletis Gordon and Antoine Cason continue to fill the nickel and dime packages. Also working in reps with the duo was FS Steve Gregory. At one point, Gregory found himself matched up one-on-one with Buster Davis. Davis reached for the ball and, after the ball scraped his fingertips, the pigskin fell to the ground.
--Rivers and Chris Chambers continued to display their comfort working together. While Chambers shot up the field with Quentin Jammer right by his side, Rivers cranked a deep pass to have Chambers make an impressive one-handed grab.
--While Davis is filing the slot receiver role with the first team, Legedu Naanee was back on the field after taking a few practices off for an injury. Naanee worked with the second team in the slot receiver role. He looks fit as he showed top speed and energy in receiving a pass from Billy Volek while cutting up the middle.
--Charlie Whitehurst worked in with the second team as he did during Monday's practice. Whitehurst started off by throwing an out-of-bounds pass to Kassim Osgood and then bombed an over-thrown deep pass to Malcom Floyd. After a few poor attempts, he finally hit Osgood while cutting out wide.
