Conway, Parker Practice

The mystery finally unraveled itself on Wednesday when wide receiver Curtis Conway returned to the practice field on Wednesday. Offensive tackle Vaughn Parker also was on the practice field on Wednesday and they could not come back soon enough.

Both were still listed as questionable for Sunday's game but the appearance of the veterans at practice lifted spirits across the board and Conway stated he would be ready for Sunday's crucial game.

"On a positive note, we got a full day of participation out of Curtis Conway, which was encouraging to see," said Chargers Coach Marty Schottenheimer. "I think he'll remain questionable, but we're very much encouraged by his presence and participation.

"Curtis looked good. There was no evidence of the problem."

"I feel pretty good," said Conway, who first sustained the injury in an overtime win against San Francisco on Nov. 17. He aggravated it early in a 30-3 loss at Miami on Nov. 24 and didn't return.

"It's getting better," Conway said. "I don't even want to go back to what went wrong with it. I just thank God that it's getting better."

"I don't even want to talk about the past," Conway added. "I'm blessed that it's getting better, man, and happy that I'm back on the field. I want to continue to get it strong and get ready for the game Sunday."

Ok, so the mystery remains but the presence of Conway on the field and in good spirits is enough.

Vaughn Parker has missed four games after having surgery to repair a torn triceps.

"Vaughn did everything today," said Schottenheimer. "I didn't get a chance to visit with him after practice, but it appeared as though he was having no difficulty."

"Obviously, it would give us an opportunity to put considerable experience back in the lineup, particularly at the offensive tackle position where Vaughn's experience and leadership is invaluable to what we do," said Schottenheimer. "The timing between Curtis and Drew (Brees) has been quite good. That's the one thing that we've missed in Curtis' absence."
