Conway set to be Inactive

Curtis Conway has been in and out of the lineup over the last six games. When he has been in, he has been a virtual ghost. Last week, though he was still feeling the effects of a pinched nerve in his shoulder, Conway still managed to open up some underneath routes for other Chargers receivers.

Wide receiver Curtis Conway (shoulder) didn't practice on Friday, and it appears unlikely he will go Sunday. "If he doesn't practice, he will probably be inactive," coach Marty Schottenheimer said.

Dondre Gilliam will get the chance to play if Conway is not a go for Sunday. Eric Parker will likely get the start as he has slowly solidified his status as a viable option at the receiver position.

"That's the upside of somebody being out and not available is somebody else getting a chance and stepping up," Schottenheimer said. "He's done an outstanding job, and it's been fun to watch."

Parker has indeed shown he can get open. His route running is solid and he is also able to get open on deep out patterns. Last week in Kansas City, Parker was open on a number of deep patterns but Drew Brees was slow in getting him the ball. You have to believe that if he is open like that this week; Brees will be able to hit him in stride. The difference is Brees will now be able to anticipate the moves Parker makes. The extra practice time and confidence in working together will make that happen, and the results will show.
